Without volunteers, the Harley
Owners Group® as we know it would
not exist. Chapters would not form.
Events would not happen. Many
programs would not be possible. In
other words, volunteers comprise an
essential, highly valued part of the
H.O.G.® organization.
Each
year, literally tens of thousands
of people volunteer with H.O.G.
at some level. For instance, more
than 12,000 people currently serve
as chapter officers worldwide. What
this means is, if you're looking to
get more involved, meet new people,
experience new things, and have a
lot of fun in the process, you've
definitely come to the right place!
Where to Start
There are many ways to get involved,
but as a general rule, it all starts
with the
chapters.
So the first thing to do if you're
interested in helping out is to
contact your local chapter, or
sponsoring dealer or retailer.
As
alluded to above, one way to get
involved is by serving as a chapter
officer. Each chapter has four
official "primary" officers and any
number of additional "discretionary"
officers:
Primary Officers
Director
Assistant Director
Treasurer
Secretary |
Discretionary Officers
Activities Officer
Ladies of Harley®
Officer
Road Captain
Editor
Safety Officer
Photographer
Membership Officer
Webmaster
Historian |
Note: Each chapter has its
own process for selecting these
officers.
State Rallies
State Rallies
are another hotbed of H.O.G.
volunteerism. One of the roles of a
chapter's Assistant Director is to
serve as the official liaison for
the State Rally Committee. So
contacting him or her is a good
place to start if you're interested
in helping with a state rally. You
can also call the contact number for
your state rally as listed in
Hog Tales®.
In
the U.S., planning a state rally is
a statewide effort. Ideally, the six
members of the State Rally Committee
come from all over the state.
Offices include:
State Rally Coordinator
Site Coordinator
Registration Coordinator
Events Coordinator
Treasurer
Secretary
U.S.
State Rallies provide only an
example. Other countries have
similar set-ups for their rallies.
And, keep in mind that rally
officers need plenty of helpers. It
takes far more than six people to
make these rallies run! |
